My Kenmore Elite side by side keeps getting to cold and freezing food. Is there a separate thermostat or is this all controlled by the digital motherboard???
There is a thermistor located by the damper that you would want to check for resistance. The resistance at room temp should be 5K ohms. If it does not check out ok then the thermistor will need to be replaced. Also check the damper to make sure that it is operating by turning power off and on at the control. If the damper is working then the issue will be the control board.
My Kenmore elite side by side freezing things in the refrigerator. Is there any other thermostat that controls this other than the motherboard? It is on the warmest setting...
Answer Nate, A couple of things to check, before you replace the control board 8201659 Check and make sure both doors close and seal properly. Check and make sure there are no articles, hanging over the edges of the shelves, or against the wall(s). This traps air in areas and causes articles to freeze. Then you'll need to remove the cover and check the air diffuser 2216112. There is a motor and a flapper door inside the assembly, if the door or linkage jams or breaks, or the motor fails, if the damper door remains open, the air from the freezer compartment will migrate over to the refrigerator compartment and cause things to freeze.
