Maytag quietseries 200, None of the touch pad lights come on. It seemed to have stopped in mid cycle as the soap is still in the dispenser, but we didn't notice that until I started taking it apart. It has power. It's about 4 years old. Think it could be the control panel? Seems like these go bad. I hate to hunt and peck for the problem and order parts I don't need and then return them. Any diagnostic test I can do to check the board or the control panel? Thanks for your help
Answer Hello Jeffery,
Of course you need to check that power is getting to the control before ordering any parts. You should also open the power connection box behind the kick panel to make sure none of the wire nuts are burned. If these are good, unplug the ribbon cable from the control and rub the end with a pencil eraser and only rub it toward the end to prevent damage to the traces. Re-connect it and check the units' operation. If this didn't fix it, you have a 50/50 chance that it is the control panel. If replacing it doesn't correct the issue, you will need to replace the control board. The tech sheet behind the kick panel does give a diagnostic test but it will not tell you if it is the touch panel or the control board causing the issue.
The unit will not start. We can select different modes of operation, but it doesn't come on when hitting the start button. Also, we noticed the clean light did not illuminate when cycle was complete.
Answer Hello Jeff,
This sounds like a control board failure. The touch panel could also be bad but I would only replace the control board first as this could possibly solve the entire issue since the control board will cause strange behavior in the display panel. The part number for the board is going to be dependant on the first two digits, (series number or run number), of the serial number on the units' I.D. tag. If it is 32 or lower, the part you will need is W10218822. If they are 33 to 35 you will need to order part number W10218828. If they are 36 or higher you will need to order part number W10218834.
