This side by side will stop cooling, then I'll adjust the freezer colder control and it will start up. Then, will stop cooling after 3 days or so I'll adjust the same control and it starts and the process starts all over again. From what I've read in most of the questions, thermostats seem to be the problem. Are they difficult to replace?

I have replaced the thermostat 2198202. I have to turn the temperature almost all the way off to keep from going below 32 degrees. This is the second thermostat that I have tried and they both act the same. It is the correct thermostat but it is not sending the temp correctly. The old thermostat would hold the temp at the correct place but the points were bad and it would not turn off and on at times. Richard

Latest Questions

We bought this fridge in sept 2012. Just before one year was up the compressor went and it was covered by warranty. Since than twice the fridge has quit cooling. Each time we unplugged the fridge and than latter it started up again. The control panel which is digital cannot be adjusted. The freezer setting is stuck on 7 and the fridge is on 2. Pushing the buttons for + and - nothing happens. What parts do I need to fix the control panel? I phoned Whirlpool service they said part # 12784415V. Is this correct? Is this is what is causing the fridge to quit? Do I need all of this part? Is it really the part that will fix it? Do you carry this part. How much does it cost? Thank you for your help.

Mike for Model Number kenmore side by side

Answer

Hello, my Kenmore side by side has temp control issues. It is a 2nd frig located in the garage. At times the freezer temp will be 15 +/- (it use to be lower than that) & the frig will be in the 30's. Other times such as now the freezer will not go below 20 and the frig might be 40 +. Sometimes the frig will freeze food. The outside temp seems to possibly influence the inside temp. The vent control does open and almost completely close when actuated by the freezer control knob. The unit has very long run times. If I turn the temp control down it will shut the unit off. However, the amount I turn it down greatly varies to get to the shut off point. The temp out of the freezer duct is 20 as compared to my newer Whirlpool of 5. Cond. coils are clean and fans run. Help. Thank you, Mike
