Is the shroud on the compressor necessary ? It is falling apart? Can I replace it and how? The freezer works, but the rest is not chilling.
Answer Hello Jon,
The fan shroud for the condenser fan must be there. It holds the fan motor in place and allow the fan to blow air across compressor and condenser. On the cooling issue make sure that your condenser is clean. Also check to make sure that evaporator fan motor W10128551 is blowing. Check the back wall of freezer for frost build up. If there is frost build up you will want to check continuity on the heater 67001794 and defrost thermostat 67003426. If you do not have continuity then that part is bad. Check the thermostat when cold. If both check out then you would need to replace the control board W10503278. Also check the damper W10196393 in the refrigerator compartment to ensure that it is open. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
