How do I know if the fan is the problem? The frig just started not getting cold, it would stay fairly cool but not cold enough to keep food cold.
Answer Dave, The easiest way to check the condenser fan, Stand barefoot in front of the refrigerator or run your hand along the front of the bottom grille, if the fan is running and the condenser coils is relatively clean, you should feel the hot air blowing out from behind the grille. If it's been a while, you may just want to clean the condenser coils in the bottom behind the grille and check and clean the condenser fan motor and blade and area inside the compressor compartment in the back of the refrigerator.
Hello, I have a Maytag French door refrigerator that has a burning smell about it. Just started today but is currently still cooling just fine. I've read online that I may have dusty fan coils or possibly a relay trying to burn out or maybe even a compressor. I'd like to try and fix it before a breaks completely. Any help or suggestions on how to go about cleaning it now or anticipating the needed repair or repairing the problem would be appreciated. Thank you. Cullen
To clean the condenser coils you can use a coil cleaning brush to clean. The coil brush part number is 4210463RW and can be used to clean the lint filter area of your dryer as well. The coils are located on the bottom of the unit and you have to remove the kickplate to clean them. Just run the brush through each of the coils and move kinda side to side. You will also want to check to see if the start relay on the compressor is what is causing the odor in which case this will most likely be the cause for the issue. The relay would need to be replaced as it is most likely burning out.
