Our maytag side by side is no longer cooling on the frig side. Freezer is fine. Defrost control board is ok. Defrost assembly is ok. Fins are defrosted fine. I am trying to figure out what is wrong with it can you give me some clues (temperature control assembly, maybe?).

my freezer when on 3 was working fine now it is not ice cream is melting when i turn the freezer up all the way ice come everywhere and fridge is hot im thinking defrost timer what do u think

Answer Will, The ADC board 61005988 could be the issue. But first, you want to check and make sure the doors are closing and sealing properly, the dispenser flap is closing and sealing, and the air return cover door 61006081 is opening and closing(not stuck). You'll also want to check and make sure the auto damper assembly 61005971 door opens and closes as well.

The panel between the two doors at the front is extremely hot to the touch. Could it be the temperature control assembly?

Answer Hello Craig. You need to check and see if the condenser fan motor is bad on the unit. If so, it will cause the unit to get hot and not cool properly. If the fan is not running, test for power. If power is there, replace the motor 61002038. If the motor is running, try cleaning the condenser coils under the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Refrigerator was not cooling. Freezer was ok. Found the coils in the back of the freezer to be a block of ice. Maybe the doors had been felt open a lot? Used a hair dryer and fan to help un-thaw the unit. It worked for a while and the same thing happened. This time I noted that near the thawing element at the bottom of the coil that the outside wall of the unit was melted slightly. Seems like the element got too hot. Now the unit will cool and keep both sides at a proper temp for a while and then the coil freezes again. I think I need to change the element and thermostat but not sure what might have caused the element to melt at side wall. Could the thermostat have failed and stuck in the on position too long? Could the timer be bad? [I assume there is a timer. I can not find one) Any thoughts? Thank you!

Answer Hello Mike. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer 61005988. My freezer keeps freezing up every 2 weeks. I tested the heater element & sensor which tested good. What else is there? The defrost control board?

Answer Hello B.J., The adaptive defrost control, the defrost thermostat, and the defrost heater are the only components in the defrost circuit on this unit besides the wiring harness. This model is notorious for the adaptive defrost control 61005988 failing.

I need to know what tools I need and how to install the temperature,control assembly for the refergiator side it just stop getting things cold. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance

Answer Hello Forrest. Pull down on the back of the control panel cover and slide it off toward the front. Next remove the 1/4" screws and phillips head screws securing the control panel in the unit and drop down the control panel. Unplug the wires going to the control panel. Now you can access and replace the temperature control 61005651. Make sure you route the temp wire in the same location the old one was removed. Hope this helps.
