My washer works until the spin cycle.

Washing machine fills with water and begins washing, agitator does its thing. Stops at the end of this cycle and does nothing else. Manually moving the timer through the cycles yields no activity, except the wash cycles where the agitator moves back and forth. Can't get it to drain or spin.

At times the cycle control know does not initiate washer action. The tub fills with water only. If I move the dial to another cycle sometimes it will start up. On one occasion I dropped the lid and it immediately started. Ii call this the "Pa Kettle" response. It doesn't always work.

After I replaced the lid switch you said if it is stopping and there is a humming noise then the motor might be bad. When it stops the only noise I hear is coming from the control dial on top. Is this what you mean?
