Hi The freezer part (bottom) of this Amana is working fine, the refrigerator part (top) is not colling any more. I checked the freezer part and it was full of ice. I got the advise to defrost it. I did it and everything seems to be working fine. 2 weeks later, same problem, again full of ice, defrost it and its back to normal. I understood that defroster system doesn't work. which parts should I replace in order to fix this problem? thanks Tamir

Answer Hello Tamir D. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. My refrigerator is operating very erratically. The compressor and fan do not cycle on at times when they should. The temperature in both the refrigerator compartment and the freezer are warming up enough that the compressor should cycle on but on occasion it does not. Here is the kicker, when the compressor won't cycle on, I or my wife will open the freezer door and all we have to do is to lightly tap the freezer control knob (Item # AP4077559) and the compressor will cycle on and continue to run normally. At times it will cycle on normally all by itself without our having to open the freezer door and tap the freezer control knob and at times we have to 'tap start' the compressor. It drives us nuts, always checking if ref./freezer is cold enough. The problem as it seems to me, may be with the Freezer Temperature Control assembly Item # AP4077824 but of course that is just a guess on my part. So I would appreciate in your professional opinion what you think my problem may be. Thank you for your help. Tony

Answer Hello Tony, This sounds like you either have a bad connection, (not very likely as it would be more likely to just not come on at all), or the temperature control 67003000 has failed.

The freezer stopped working about 1-1/2 days ago and the refridgerator stopped today. I'm hoping that replacing the temperature control would fix this problem. The compressor kicks on every 3 min with a clicking sound. It gets warm but not really hot. I'm not sure but some things Ive read say it may be the control thermostat in the freezer. Any input would be helpful.

Answer Hello Marcus, Sounds like you have a bad start relay 67006453. If the start relay burns out again in the nest few days, it's possible that the compressor has gone into failure and will require replacement. Let's hope not as it is a very expensive replacement and normally runs close to the cost of the entire units' replacement.

Answer Hello Titian. Check and see if the damper assembly 67003410 is opening and closing properly. You can check this by unplugging the refrigerator for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. You should hear and see the door open and close. If it does not, you will need to replace the damper assembly. Hope this helps.
