Freezes water and such but wont keep ice cream cold.
You will want to check the frost pattern of the evaporator coils in the freezer compartment. Check for impacted coils having them completely full of frost as being the issue. If the coils are like this then it is a defrost issue. If the unit does not have impacted coils or have a full frost pattern then the issue will be with the sealed system. The way that the coils should look is a full even frost pattern from top to bottom.
Can I use thermostat 52881-33 in place of 52881-25 which is no longer available? Is it a question of mounting it? Can you tell me the difference between the two?
Answer Hello John,
Part of the problem may be mounting but the main issue will be the thermal value of the control. If the control is not for the model listed, there may be an issue with the temperature not being calibrated correctly for the unit it is being installed into. Basically this means that the control will not match the set value. In this case, the unit may run too long and freeze items in the fresh food compartment or it may not run long enough and items will be kept a too warm a temperature and items are in danger of spoilage. Since appliance parts are listed by model number and temperature ranges for them are not provided by the manufacturer, we cannot say that this will be a good substitute unless the manufacturer lists them as a good cross.
What does Control Cold mean? Is this a Gemline 68119-2?
Answer Hello Dave! The cold control is the refrigerator temp controller- thermostat. Part number 68119-2 has been discontinued and has been replaced with part number 68601-6. Thanks!
