The ice does not dispense when depressed at the door. I did some research into the problem and I initially thought I needed to replace the auger motor. That is not the issue, it works. I pulled out the ice bin, and the auger moves freely with no ice in the bin. I think held the light button and depressed the ice dispenser and the auger motor turns at the back of the fridge. When I insert the ice bin back in and then try to get ice, all I hear is a whirling sound, like the motor is jammed. I believe that the motor is attempting to turn the auger but the auger will not turn. I am not sure if it is seated properly or that somehow it is getting jammed.

When I activate the ice dispenser I can hear the motor attempt to drive the dispenser then it "jams". If I take the ice bucket out and empty it of ice I can't freely turn the metal rod that runs the length of the inside of the bucket (I think this is what you're referring to as the auger?). Also, the coupler cap does not sit flush against the back of the bucket (I'm assuming the metal rod is binding keeping it from spinning). Should I be able to easily turn the rod in the ice bucket by hand when the bucket is out of the freezer and empty of ice?

I chatted with a representative earlier and decided I need part number ap4014968 for my Amana SXD22S2W ice dispenser. In looking at pictures of the part, there is a metal plate & plastic chute on the front of the agitator. My particular part does not have that plastic chute on the front. I assume it can be removed?

Just yesterday my fridge stopped dispensing ice. Upon examining the ice maker, we discovered that the top end of the ice agitator had become dislodged. Based on the pictures above, I will call the ice crusher/dispenser end the bottom and the circle end with plastic the top. Normally the circle at the top wraps around that piece of plastic. In our fridge, the metal has some how came off the plastic. As a result, the agitator is unable to turn because the metal circle hits the wall of the ice bin. Based on your experience, do you think I could somehow get the metal back around the circle? My concerns with ordering the new part are 1. How difficult it will be to take the current model apart (Need to keep ice bin), 2. How difficult it would be to put back together, and 3. What caused it to happen the first time and will it happen again? Thank you for any help here.
