Everything seems fine but won't agitate. I opened the front and found black soot around the bottom in the middle. Both belts seem fine and the motor slides easily. The fiber gasket like marteral is coming out in one area. There are no alarming sounds coming from the unit.
How do I diagnois what is causing the failure to agitate?
The suet was also on the floor beneath the washer.
Could it mearly be the spring that causes tension on the belt? The unit goes thru all cycles and spins dry. When I turn the pully by hand the agitator seems to want to work.
The agitator lifts out easily and appears to me to function like it should.
Boots for Model Number Maytag LAT9416AAE Washer
Answer Boots, If the washer will fill, spin and drain, but wont agitate, you can pretty much figure the issue is in the timer 22003362 or 22003366, depending on serial/series number. If the washer will only spin and drain, then you'll need to check the lid switch assembly/fuse 22001682 inside the control panel. Now, the soot, and the gasket material in the center of the base, is indicating, the damper pads 203956 are worn out, and need to be replaced. It's not that difficult a repair to make, if you take care of it as soon as possible.
on the spin cycle machine shakes violently. It moves away from its original position

Answer Rob, If you're sure the machine is level, and all the legs are "locked" in place, and there is no movement or vibration in the floor, remove the front panel ( two phillips head screws)and check to see if the Damper Pads 203956 are sticking out from under the damper assembly or badly worn. The damper could be worn in spots, but normally does not need to be replaced.
