The freezer is running at -20f, the ref side at 37f. The evap freezes up. Blocks the drain and water collects and freezes on bottom of freezer compartment. Ran diagnostics. All check out but test 5. Damper runs but doesn't close and evap fan doesnt run on test 5. Parts breakdown doesn't show freezer thermister as does wiring diagram on unit. I have changed the main electronic control board. Same results. Sometimes the over temp alarm activates. Any ideas? Tony

Answer Hello Tony, The thermistor for the freezer is located by the air duct and comes in from the refrigerator side under the diffuser. The thermistor part number for diffuser is 2188819 and is the same as refrigerator thermistor. The drain through freezing the drain line would normally be a clogged drain. Clear ice and drain line if continues then you will want to make sure that the fan is not coming on during the defrost cycle.

There is a constant clicking coming from the diffuser. The fridge and freezer temps seem fine. Does the clicking mean that the diffuser is going bad or stuck on something. Thanks Mike

Answer Hello Doug, The clicking sound in the diffuser means that the diffuser motor is going bad and you will want to replace the diffuser 2216112.

We have KitchenAid Side by Side with Ice and water in the door. The ice dispenser has stopped working but water dispenser still works. What part do we need to buy to fix this problem

Answer Hello Melanie, You will want to check the dispenser motor to see if it is faulty. You can check this by doing a voltage check. You should have 12 vdc to the motor on the pin 1 and 2. If you have power there then you need to replace the motor 2252130.

Freezer was not defrosting, and fridge was warm Had bad bi-metal, replaced it. Replaced control board. Defrost works now, but freezer and fridge are too cold now--milk is frozen solid. Based on what I've read here, it's the thermistor and/or diffuser. My question is, HOW do I test to see if the diffuser is opening or closing? I can't see in there. I need step by step instructions. Answer Hello Rob. 1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. 2. Remove the mounting screw and wire channel from the top of the refrigerator compartment. 3. Remove the mounting screw and air baffle cover. 4. Locate the air chute in the top of the freezer compartment. NOTE: For models in which the ice maker is turned for ice in the door, pull the ice maker forward and remove it from the product. 5. Remove the air chute mounting screw and cover. Style 1 - Remove the air chute. Then remove the air scoop from the baffle. Style 2 - Remove the air chute from the baffle.6. Release the air baffle retaining clips from the freezer compartment and push the air baffle toward the refrigerator compartment. 7. Pull the air baffle assembly into the refrigerator compartment and disconnect the wiring connector from the baffle motor. 8. Reinstall the baffle assembly in the reverse order. 9. Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.

Freezer side -20 C / refer side 5-10 C. Digital settings are set at 0 / 36. Diffuser is iced over with some condensation below diffuser on refer side. Vegetables are freezing in the veg crisper and in lower shelves of refer side. Lower refer side vent is open and air current is cold and hand detectable. Meat lowest bin vent stuck in "MEAT" slider selection and iced over. Main computer control board will not respond to "Power" on/off and computer will not allow me to set and enter diagnostic mode after multi[ple disconnects and attempts. Please advise. I believe I need a new main computer board, a defrost thermometer, and possibly a new diffuser.

Answer Hi Roger. Sounds like the diffuser 2216112 isn't closing. First check for an air leak around the door seals and at the ice door [8201649]. An air leak will cause moisture from the air (humidity) to condense in the diffuser area and it could be blocked open by frost. If no air leak is detected you either have a bad diffuser or, since you have replaced the thermistor, the control 8201658 could be bad. Before you replace the control, unplug the unit for 10 minutes then reconnect to the power supply and see if it resets the microprocessor. Thank You.
