Ben A. for Model Number GR396LX62
Answer Hello Ben. Use an ice pick and go through the vents in the oven door area and pull the latch over and open the door. Then you will need to replace the latch 9761013 and the clock assembly on the unit to repair it.
Error E1 and F5 lit up and top and bottom heating elements wouldn't go on. Instructions said that the door latch was jammed. We followed instruction and door latch "released", but the heating elements wouldn't go back on. Does that mean the door latch assembly is broken or could it be something else?
Victoria for Model Number Whirlpool #GR440LXMB
Answer Hello Victoria. First test the thermal fuse 3196548 and make sure it is closed for continuity. Also, make sure the temperature probe W10181986 reads 1100 ohms at room temperature. If so, then test for power coming from the control board 8524255 to the elements. If there is none there, you will need to replace the control board and the latch assembly W10107820. The latch assembly is bad and has blown the control board. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
