Answer Tommy, yes there is always water in that area of the drain pump. Under normal conditions, it is the lowest area of the drain system and retains a small amount of water. Unless you remove the pump and drain it. Everything sounds normal at this point. Thanks!

Answer Pkscheel, In most cases the pieces get through a little opening between inner and outer tub. Unfortunately aside from checking all clothing before putting in the wash there is no way to stop things from getting into the pump strainer. Periodically you will want to pull the strainer and make sure that there is nothing in it that will eventually get into the pump itself.

Answer Carl, To test the pump you would do a resistance check. If unplug the pump and put a lead on each terminal the resistance value should be approximately 12.3 ohms. This is normal and abnormal is infinite or open. If you find this reading then the pump motor is bad. Also check to make sure that the pump is not clogged. If the pump is clogged or the tube coming off the bottom of the unit is clogged then you would want to clear the clog and recheck to see if the unit pumps out water.
