Aha! Now that clears things up for me. As I understand it, the pump blade is spiral by design so that it will pump when going CW but not when going CCW based on which direction the motor is turning. The pump seemed OK but the belt seemed a little worn out so I replaced it, see what happens. Now my question next question is: If I have to replace the pump, I will need to remove the front panel correct? How do I do that?

I'm afraid I may have to replace the water pump and the belt however, before I order the parts I have some questions: 1. In the schematic diagram I see a "water valve" but I believe that controls the incoming cold and hot water. What keeps the water in the tub from draining during the wash or rinse cycles. I saw a plastic pipe from the tub to the pump and from the pump out to drain but I don't see any valve. 2. To replace the pump I may have to remove the front panel. How do I remove the front panel?

I'm having periodic problem with the washing machine shutting off with the tub still with water or the clothes still soaking wet. After reading your previous threads, few questions dawned on me. (1) You mentioned that this is a high volume pump. Does the pump run all the time? (2) Is there a drain valve that prevents the water from draining during wash as well as rinse cycles? (3) Should I hear a steady rush of water out the drain hose from the start to the end of the drain cycle?

Latest Questions

My good old Performa is making a grinding noise that varies in amplitude and duration during the wash and rinse cycles. it varies from a dull throbbing type sound to clicking loud grinding sound. The sounds even stop for short periods of time. It still goes through all the cycles but I suspect for not much longer as now it is in it's eighteenth year. Any ideas as to what it may be?

The drain pump assembly quit on our Maytag washer. From reading the questions and answers on this part, I came across one where a Pro suggested upgrading the part to #35-6780 for the same washer model. Is this still suggested? Do we purchase #35-6465 or #35-6780? Thank you
