I have a Crosley brand upright freezer, and the drain freezes up on it. Every 2-3 months, I have to manually thaw out the coils inside the freezer. It seems that the drain freezes up, and then water collects in the bottom, and it freezes. When I thaw it out, the drain hose is clear. What is causing it to freeze up?

Thank you for your answer and here is another question. I checked on the seals and condenser and looks nice, I'll bet my compressor is inefficient, 1- how much watts should it needs to work in new condition? 2- in case my fridge use much less watts new what other compressor do you recommend me, maybe in this days are more efficient compressors than 17 years ago?

My refrigerator is 17 years old in excellent condition, the only problem has been the condenser fan that got dirty inside and stopped so I replaced it and no more problem. Even though, I noticed that in running condition, it consumes 270 watts or 2.5 amp and I think that brand new, until several years later, it consumed like 180 watts. Am I wrong or can the filter, compressor, capacitor make it more power hungry?

Latest Questions

Freezer is not getting cold enough. - defrost cycle is working fine (evap coils are frost free) - condensor coils are clean - condensor fan and evaporator fan are working - cold control thermostat is working - no apparent issues with relays or starter (no clicking, no intermittent starting of compressor, compressor hums along fine) - compressor seems to be working hard to cool freezer but temperature only hovers a few degrees below freezing. I've set cold control on max, compressor is on full time. - Line into condenser is hot, line out of condenser is close to room temp. - line back to compressor is slightly cooler than room temp - no sign of coolant leak. I'm stumped. Bad coolant? Poor compression? obstruction in cooling line?

What is causing the whitish green buildup on the connecting ends to the compressor? Could it be a leak or just starting to wear out?Thank You
