My dryer works fine with a very small load. When I have something a little heavier (not overloaded) the drum will not turn. Is this a sign the belt is bad or could it be something else.
In most cases when a dryer will start with a smaller load but not a larger, this would be caused by a weak motor in which it cannot turn the heavier load. You would also want to check the rollers on the unit to ensure that there is no damage to them.
How do I check the motor to see if it is good?
To find out if the motor is good you would test for 120 vac to the motor. If there is 120 vac to the motor then the motor would be faulty. If not then check the thermal fuse and door switch for continuity.
DRUM WON'T TURN WITH FULL LOAD,MOTOR IS STILL TURNING.COULD BELT BE STRETCHED CAUSING THIS?
Answer DIY Guru,
You will want to check the rollers on the unit to make sure that they are not binding. If the rollers check ok then the issue will most likely be the belt that is bad.
