If the dryer is screeching, but the belt isn't broken. Will changing the belt still fix it?

Last night our dryer had a high pitch squeal which I assumed was the belt. I stopped it and started it again and the noise stopped. However, this morning we were running it and the drum stopped turning but the timer and lights were all still on. Looking inside the toe plate panel the belt is not viably broken... Have recently replaced the thermostat and thermistor. Not sure what I need to replace. Any ideas?

This is a kenmore dryer. I am trying to get a belt diagram on how it is run through the idle wheel motor pulley and drum. I have contacted your staff earlier when I purchased my idler wheel part #279640 from you,but the diagrams they derected me to were not mine. I also contacted sears were I bought the dryer in 1997 but they were no help at all.

How do I repair my dryer belt ?

The dryer squeals a great deal when first turned on, but after a minute or two it goes away. I was thinking it was the belt slipping until it warms up, but may also be the rollers. Would prefer to only get the part I need and open the box only once. If I need both rollers, pulley wheel and belt, is there a kit for this model? Any help is appreciated.
