I'm getting rusty looking streaks on our clothing from the dryer. It appears to be coming from around the felt drum seals. Is this a common problem? Will it come back over time if we replace the seals?
Ann for Model Number SDG5701AWW
Answer Hello Ann,
I would change both drum seals Y055980, the drum glides 37001298 and the drum rollers 37001042. These are the items responsible for holding the drum straight and will keep the clothes from getting caught as long as nothing else is bent or malformed. The adhesive used for the seals is part number Y055980. If the glides are worn away, the felts 500092 under the glides may need to be replaced. If any of these parts need to be lubricated, be sure to use either baby powder or corn starch. Never use a wet lubricant, as this will make lint stick and be pulled into bushings and parts will fail faster than they would if they weren't lubricated at all.
The drum inside the dryer will not turn. Do you have any idea what could cause this. At first we could manually turn the drum a little then turn on the dryer and it would run. Now it will not turn at all
Brenda for Model Number Amana Gas Dryer
Answer Brenda, You most likely have a drive motor with a weak start winding. But you could check the drum seals and drum glides, for excess drag. Could you supply a model number, we can be of more asistance with it. Thanks
