i have 1 broken coil and 2 fused together dryer still gets hot but takes forever to dry clothes. Keeps getting AF code but had it cleaned out and there is no blockage also changed the thermister. Would a bad heating element cause this and the AF code?

The dryer stopped getting warm. I removed the heater and two of the coiled wires were fused together. I separated them and recrimped them to the connectors. I still have no heat. I checked voltage from the wire harness to the heater assembly and I got 110 volts to each of the heater elements. If I order part number 8573069 will I also need to order the thermostat. Is there a way to bench test the thermostat?
