Jim for Model Number kenmore refer #1068680380
Answer Hello Jim. From the description you have provided, it sounds like you have a defrost issue. You could have a bad timer 482493, defrost thermostat 4387499 or the element (which is no longer available). You can test the thermostat with a multi meter TJMA-DM1, it should read closed when cold. The element, should give you some resistance reading. Here is a link you can refer to for help with using a multi meter: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html . Hope you find this information helpful!

Jim K. for Model Number kemc308ksso
Answer Hello Jim. The circular element mounts into the back of the oven. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=264586&diagram_id=28256757 You do not need to operate the oven without this element. You will also need to replace the control board 8302985 and the membrane 4456357. Hope this helps.
