I don't believe that the sticky black residue on the main pump gasket is from low water temp or not enough detergent. I am certain that it is some breakdown of the gasket rubber surface which would not necessarily cause a leak. It is not at all removed by detergent (Dawn) but rather just smears around and sticks to all the white plastic (or your hands or the rag). We have also seen this problem with the black rubber door gasket. It comes off easily using d-limeonene solvent. Continued rubbing with a rag saturated with d-limonene removes more of the rubber but in diminished amounts. Always dead black with not a hint of any food debris. Dishwasher detergent is very corrosive and I suspect a slow, long term attack of the gasket rubber. Do you know the gasket material? Natural rubber is cheap but not very chemical resistant. Butyl or nytrile might be better but Viton would be best but probably too expensive for a Maytag machine!

The part of the pump gasket (12) which is visible after removing the pump filter plate (7) is nearly disintegrated(sticky, gooey black residue comes off on your fingers). How do I replace it? Also, should there be any standing water below the filter plate (in the sump ring area) after a wash?
