I'm noticing a build up of black debris just below the door after a wash cycle that must be cleaned out with a rag or paper towel. Upon further inspection, the pump sump gasket seems to be deteriorating. Could this be what is causing the black debris build-up? The washer is just over 10 years and stills runs great. Is the gasket worth replacing? Thanks for your help.

With all your help and comments, I finally managed to remove the “Sum and Motor Assembly”, Item 14, Part #8268413. Installing back the unit it has been a hassle. It seems that the “Seal Pump” is a very tight fit. In other suggestion, you advised that a hair dryer can or could be used for heating the seal and then it will fit into the place. Can you confirm or give me additional ways to install the unit. Once again, I thank you and waiting for your respect so I can proceed with the final installation

Answer Hello Stan. No, use some rinse aid on the gasket 8268395 to make it wet and slide it into place. Hope this helps.

I recently replaced the circulation motor that I purchased from you on my dishwasher . Everything is working and sounding like new again! When changing the motor I did not remove the sump pump housing nor disturb the sump pump gasket. Now I'm getting leaking from around the gasket when viewed from below. What would cause this gasket to leak now? Have I broken the seal when changing the motor or moving the dishwasher around? How can I stop it from leaking with out removing it? Can this gasket be removed and a "gasket sealer" used on it to stop the leaking? Any recommendations for a sealer to use? Is there a sealer supplied with a new gasket? If I have to replace the gasket, is it necessary to replace the 3 clips - part # AP4701275, or are they reusable? Are there any instructions available for removing the sump housing and changing the gasket the Whirlpool service manual isn't very clear on this procedure? It looks like the sump housing sits into the gasket and is held in place by the 3 clips. Thank you.

Answer Hi Charlie. You may have just disturbed it enough to get the gasket to leak. Gasket Part # 8268395. You can try to take a hair dryer on a low setting on the top side of the pump motor gasket area, and after it has heated push down on the top of the motor to reseal it. Thank You.
