I took my mixer apart and discovered that the worm follower gear was stripped. I ordered a new one but it will not slide down the shaft. It gets stuck maybe halfway. Does this mean the shaft is defective and I need a new planetary? Thanks!
You will want to double check to make sure that you received the correct part and then if you did then check the planetary shaft to make sure that there are no burrs or anything on shaft that would cause the follower to go all the way down. If the shaft is oblonged then the planetary would need to be replaced otherwise just clean off any burrs that may be on it.
I replaced the worm gear follow gear. Machine max a lot of noise in all speeds. When installing the worm gear, is there a special way too align the bushings into the casting?
Answer Joe, No, there is no "special way to align the bushings" just make sure they are oriented correctly front and back and the thrust bearing is installed properly. Are you sure the noise is from the worm gear, and not from one of the other gear clusters ? And do you have plenty of lubrication in the gear case and transmission?
