My washer is making a growling noise when it changes to drain & spin cycles and it spins at only about 25% speed. Can you tell me what is wrong?

My washing machine is making a rhythmic clicking noise when it spins. I have removed the inner drum, agitator, and splutch assembly, and when I rotate the spindle by hand, it still makes the clicking noise. Does this mean the transmission is going out? The washer is only 4 years old, and still functions perfectly, other than the clicking noise.

My washer has developed a clicking noise when the tub spins. The noise is not constant, only when the drum turns past a certain point. I removed the inner tub, and the splutch assembly, and when I turned the driveshaft by hand, it was still making the same noise. Does this mean I need a new transmission? Washer still operates fine in all facets: rinse, drain, spin, etc. The noise however, is getting louder. Thank you.
