My icemaker was freezing up at the water inlet and dumping water into the freezer each cycle. I replaced the icemaker, same result. I tested the old wiring harness and the thermal fuse appears to be good. What is wrong and how do I fix it?
Mark for Model Number ed2jhgxrq00
Answer Hello Mark,
The fill tube freezing up is the symptom of a water valve that is leaking through the seal after it closes. You see, when the water valve seal starts leaking, it weeps water into the fill tube slowly enough that it freezes in the fill tube. This can only be corrected by replacing the water inlet valve W10408179.
The water inlet does not refill icemaker after ice is emptied out of maker. I checked the valve and it works when direct power is applied. Why won't it refill the icemaker?

Answer Hello Johnny,
There are contacts in the ice maker that energize the water inlet valve. When the ice maker cycles, these contacts should make electrically for 7 seconds to fill the ice maker properly. If the contacts never make electrically, the water inlet valve is never filled and ice cannot be made. Since the model number is incorrect, I can't recommend a part number specifically, but if it is a Whirlpool built model, it probably takes a 4317943 kit. You can just replace the motor module W10190935.
