I am trying to install a new ice maker (part # 2198597

Answer Hi. The ice maker part # 2198597 Complete Ice maker Assembly (8 Cube) - This ice maker is for 25-27 cubic feet models that have vertical auger dispenser installed in the freezer door. 8 cube ice maker. Lift the bail arm up. Loosen the top 2 - mount screws. Remove the bottom front screw altogether. Lift up and off the top mount screws. Reach in and squeeze disconnect the wiring harness at the back of the freezer wall. Release the bail arm from the old ice maker and insert it fully into the same locator's hole in the back of the new ice maker. Test to make sure it goes up and down with a snap action inferring that it works on and off as well. Then use a small screwdriver to release the clip that holds the wiring harness into the ice maker body. It is visible on the body. Pull out the wiring harness part # 2187467 and Use a volt/ohm meter part # TJMA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. There is a molded in-line fuse (Black) on the black wire in the middle. Use the ohm R x 1 scale and see if the fuse has continuity (O-ohms),closed and not open. If it is open then you need to replace it. Then as you are installing the ice maker, make sure it is level after tightening so all the cubes will fill properly. Use a torpedo level on the bottom for front to back and under the front cover for side to side. Shim the bottom screw with a bushing to maintain the level. Put the bail arm down. It will take 24-48 hrs for the ice maker thermostat to set to the frozen cube tray temperature before it will advance and call for water. Thank You.
I am trying to get my ice maker to work, and it looks like the wire harness needs to be replaced. I do not have to take this part out to replace it.
Vivian for Model Number GS5SHAXSL00
Answer Hi Vivian. The wire assy. has a fuse block molded into it. This assy. will unclip from the ice maker part # 2198597. If the fuse is open (bad), this part # is 2187467. Thank you.
