Hi our Kenmore bottom mount fridge model# 59666032603 is not defrosting automatically. The freezer is very cold (-30 and then ices up) but the fridge gets too warm. We have manually defrosted it several times and it lasts 3-4 weeks. We have replaced the defrost timer and it hasn't made any difference. Based on reading other posts on your site we are thinking of replacing the Heater OEM next. Is that the right next step or can you please suggest how to diagnose further? thanks
If the freezer is getting down to -30 degrees but is not cooling properly in the refrigerator then you will want to check the auto damper which is located in the back of the refrigerator compartment. If you pull the grill cover off the damper assembly, check to see if the door on the damper is open or closed. If it is closed then the damper is most likely faulty and need to be changed. If the damper checks ok then you will want to check the evaporator fan to make sure that it is operating. Also check the defrost heater for continuity and the defrost thermostat for continuity.
