Our model number is BR20QBW. And we do have the ice buildup throughout the whole back coil area. We defrosted the unit and replaced the thermostat. It lasted about 3 weeks and now we have the same problem/symptoms. Warm fridge.

Answer Steve,
You will want to check the defrost heater to make sure that it has continuity. If it does then you have a failed defrost timer and will need to replace the timer R0168027. You can also advance the defrost timer to the defrost cycle, turn until you hear a click, this will allow you to check to see if the heater is working properly. If you advance and the heater works then you will need to replace the timer.
We have a bottom freezer Amana and the symptoms are warming in the top of the refrigerator. When we pull the panel from the back of the freezer, there is ice buildup.
So, we changed out the thermostat and still have the problem. Thinking the next step is to change the heater unit?
How can you tell, diagnose, whether the thermostat or heater unit?
Any other suggestions you would have would be great and appreciated!
Thanks.

Answer Hello Steve,
If the frost is only across the top of the coils, the evaporator fan motor is probably at fault. If the frost is on all of the coils, the issue is in the defrost circuit. The defrost circuit is comprised of the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, and the defrost control. You will need to test these components and if you have any further questions we can help much more effectively if you could please post the model number.
