Dear Parts Pros,
Freezing unit in this refrigerator has wild swings in temps. Goes from -10 to 70. When it hits 70, the food thaws. We can't trust it anymore. It gets way too warm. No rhyme or reason for cycles. Cycles cold then hot, seems like daily. Not sure what to do. Your advice? Thank you. Bill
This issue sounds like it could be caused by the unit staying in defrost. In most cases when this happens it will be noticed every 8 to 10 hours or so and is caused by a faulty defrost timer. The other thing that it could be would be the temperature control 2204605. When the unit shuts off it will not sense the temperature rise and stay turned off. In most cases it is the defrost timer 2314156 that causes the issue.
Why is water freezing in freezer section and across drain hole and then drips through the holes to fresh food part of refrigerator.
Answer Lisa, This is an indication that the defrost drain tube inside the cabinet is clogged with debris or iced over . You will need to remove power to the refrigerator then the rear wall and air tunnel in the freezer compartment. Defrost and remove any excess ice and frost from behind the wall and floor. A turkey baster and hot water usually works well to start to clear the debris. you may want to insert a length of flexible semi rigid tubing ("weed wacker" line works pretty good) into the drain pan opening and carefully push it down the tube until and the debris is clear. You're going to make a mess with the water, so keep a mop or some towels handy.
