My Maytag dishwasher was on fire last afternoon. Lots of smoke but no damage as it was contained inside the DW. Husband said looks like heater coil on bottom of dishwasher burn out. My question is we ran the dishwasher without the heat on, trying with vinegar and bleach. The smell is really bad even after running the machine thru two full cycles. Before ordering the replacements parts, I would like to make sure there is something to take the smell out it we fix the unit. My dish both glass and plastic (plastic was thrown away, no way was the smell coming out of them) had the smell. Fire dept brought large fans to get most of the smell from my house, but the dishwasher still has a terrible odor. Thanks!

Answer Hello Reba,
The plastic of the tub will hold odors so, in light of the situation, I seriously doubt that you will get rid of the odor. The bad thing about this is that the outer tub is not listed as a replaceable part. This means that you will either HAVE to get rid of the odor, or the entire unit will have to go. You can try Dishwasher Magic TJ104, but I still have my doubts. The sanitation cycle is as follows. Start the dishwasher, no dishes, and no detergent. The first thing it will do is try to pump out. As soon as you hear the hissing from the water valve, signifying it's filling with water, open the door and pour in the Dishwasher magic and 1 quart of white vinegar. Let the cycle precede to the end. If an odor is still detected, run another cycle the exact same way. Let us know if we can assist you at all.
My heating element is staying on and the dishes are EXTREMELY hot to the touch up to 8 hours after the machine has shut off. How do i properly diagnose the problem and what part(s) do I need to purchase resolve the problem?

Answer Rich, The first thing is to remove power to the dishwasher, then remove the kick plare and lower access panel ( 4 screws) You'll want to visiually check for metal or debris touching one or both of the heater element terminals at the back of the tub, You also want to check bothe the wires (rd/blk and wht) wires for a possible short to chassis ground. If all's OK then you'd have to presume the heater relay on the control board [AP4113789 or 12002709(depending on serial number) is stuck "closed" and completing the circuit in the Off mode, it should only be energized during the heated dry or water temp boost selections. You may even find the technical data sheet in a plastic bag on the back of the kick plate, so you can conduct the tests listed and see the circuit path. Thanks
How do I install?
