I have a four year old Maytag unit that is running 24/7. Im having some freezing in the fridge section of the unit. I have the digital thermostat settings at 40 degrees for the fridge and 5 degrees for the freeze yet im getting a temp of -11 on the freezer and 33 degrees on the fridge. Im wondering if the is the part that i need to fix this unit. Please help. Thanks
You will want to test the thermistor in the refrigerator compartment to make sure that that it is within tolerance. The resistance of the thermistor should be 5K ohms at room temperature and if not then it is faulty and would need to be replaced. The other thing that could cause freezing would be a damper door that is stuck open. The most likely cause will be the thermistor.
Bottom freezer fan runs all of the time. Compressor turns on and off as it should, temps are good. I had a lightning strike at the house on july 3rd, lost tv's computers and phones. Maybe control board in back ???????
While it is normal for a refrigerator to run approximately 85% of the time, with the temperatures checking ok then there most likely is not an issue with the fan running all the time. If it is then the control board would most likely be the suspect. Also another indicator that the fan is running all the time would be colder than normal temperatures.
Thank you for your help so far. Here's where I'm at. I did a 6 hr thaw with the power off and the doors open. After a thorough cleaning and restoring everything, the ice maker still did not work and the food started to freeze again after several hrs.
Answer Hi Erik. Inside the fresh food by the light bulb is a temperature thermistor. It is part # 12002355. It is there to sense the temperature for the main control board in each cavity. It will affect the correct operation of the temperature controls and also the defrost cycle time. The freezer thermistor is on the rear wall cover just to the left of the evaporator fan assy. It is part # 12002355. Make sure your water fill tube is not clogged. Make sure your water supply line is not kinked behind the unit and the supply valve is open. Ohm out the water valve coils as so they are not shorted or open. Is the ice maker paddle in the out position ? Is the ejector blades stopped with a bent arm that is stopping it from cycling. Is the switch in the on position ? It is part # W10519364. If the damper is not operating correctly it will stick in the open stage and the freezer air will be too cold in the fresh food. It is part #W10127427. Thank you.
