Answer Hello Jim, The idler arm is spring loaded to take up the slack in the belt. If the idler arm couldn't move, the belt would most assuredly slip.

Answer Hello Bill. Check the shaft that the idler pulley goes onto. If it is worn, this can cause alot of play in the pulley and you will need to replace the idler arm 6-3033630.

Answer Hello David. The spring connects to the bottom of the idler pulley arm 6-3033630 in the small hole and goes down to the motor bracket in the small hole. Answer Hello Dick. There is no felt on the back of the idler roller 6-3037050. It uses spacer washers Y312527 to prevent it from rubbing aganist the metal idler arm 6-3033630. Hope this helps.

Answer Dick, there is no felt pad on the idler assembly, you're correct, the white pad, rubs against the lubed araea of the motor support. Some things to check : Check and make sure te idler pad and motor support are well lubed, check or replace the drive belt, check and insure the rear motor mount bolt is tight, and check and clean the blower wheel and housing. Answer Alan, All is normal, the idler assembly does "wobble" when the belt tension is removed. When the belt tension is on the assembly, the idler will not wobble, but may have a little movement Thanks, and Good Luck.
