The gas dryer will light up and run for a short time. After that the gas turns off and the drum and air keeps going but no heat? Is it the ignitor or some other problem? The dryer is a kenmore made by whirlpool.

Why did new igniter light up and sparked while lit? Then lit up for short time. Then did not light at all. Will not light up now. removed igniter and saw a piece on the coil burn off causing the coil to have a hole in it. Does the hole in the coil mean it can not get the current to light up? What would cause this to happen?
