I have a kenmore gas oven and the range top works fine but the broiler and oven will not light and I can't smell any gas when I turn them on. What can I do to get it working?
Sara
Answer Hello Sara,
The first thing that you want to check is the oven ignitors. You can check them using multi-meter and ohm them out. They should be 50-950 ohms cold. You also want to check amp draw on the ignitors and ensure that they are getting 3.2 to 3.6 amp draw when they turn on. Without proper amp draw the valves will not open. We will need your model number to help you with this. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx
You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello, I have a Maytag Gas oven that fires up, gets to a certain temperature, usually under the temp requested at the control board, and then all of a sudden it will shoot up to 500 degrees. What do you think? I have back probed the oven temp sensor and got the correct resistance on that part, but I am not sure if it would be the igniter? I don't have a clamp on tester to see what the draw is from the igniter, just a multi meter. Is there a certain # I should be reading to test the igniter with my multi meter?

Answer Hi. You can check to see if the igniter is getting 120 vac to the igniter first. You need to ohm out the oven sensor for 1080 ohms to 1100 ohms to see if it is open. I'm getting to the safery valve to see if it has 1-ohm resitance on the terminals at the safety valve. Disconnect one wire to ohm it out. It sounds like that the diaprahm internally is weak under pressure then it may be a cause as well, so ohm check it. IF the logic circuit are bad on the control board then it may be the issue. It is more then likely the diaprahm is weak over powering the gas supply during operation. Thank You.

The oven will not heat up. The broiler works fine, convet oven works fine.

Answer Hi Tony. Use a volt/ohm meter part #@ TJMA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Ohm out the bake igniter part # 7432P136-60. It should read between 50-400 ohms cold. If you have no continuity then it is open and you will not have any way to get the gas valve to open for safety issues. Thank You.
