Answer Joe, If your timer looks like this 21001522 then, you do have a retractable locking shaft in the back side of the timer." Remove the timer knob as follows: Locate the hole with the timer knob shaft at the rear center of the timer. Using a small,flat blade screwdriver, pry the rod located in this hole up to release the timer knob. The knob and skirt will then pull straight off." If you have a "metal bodied" timer like this 21001341 then you will need to unscrew(turn counterclockwise) the knob from the threaded timer shaft. Thanks and Good Luck

Answer Hi Joe. Knob part # 21001972. You will need to unplug the power cord from the outlet,remove the control panel Remove the three(3) screws which secure thr rear top edge of the control panel to the end caps and control panel shield. Remove the two(2) screws which secure the bottom front corners of the control panel to the end caps. Lift off the control panel. You will now have access to the rear of the timer. You will need a small flatblade screw driver at this point 21001522 (Picture is for reference) In the rear opening with the "d" shaped insert in it, you will insert the screw driver blade into the opening and pry out on the on the insert 3/8 of an inch, do not over extract the insert, you will them be able to pull the timer knob off the front timer shaft. Reverse the procedure to install the knob. Good Luck and Thanks
