Answer Hello Carole. If you can not get the knob to turn backwards, then the timer 31239 is bad and will need to be replaced with the knob. Then use a hacksaw or pair of pliers and cut the knob from the shaft or break it off the shaft. Be careful not to damage the control panel.

Answer Hi Carole. The timer knob shaft is threaded. The knob is part # 34844. Turn it to come off counter clockwise as the timer shaft is a rt. hand thread. Thank You.
