How does one remove this knob without destroying the plastic parts or damaging the timer control shaft that it snaps onto?

Answer Hello Waitman. You will need to hold and pull the clip in the center of the back of the timer, and pull the knob off the shaft. Here is a link to the picture of the back of the timer. Hope this helps. W10177827
