My Maytag washer runs fine most of the time but the motor quits some time like it is overheating and shuts off for about 30 min. Then I can reset it and it will finish the cycle. Do I need a new motor or is there a way for me to trouble shoot it myself?

Belt on my Speed Queen SWS01AW was badly worn. Intimidated by taking motor out to change belt, I "bulked up" the belt with duct tape. After it was installed, and working, smelled smoke and belt slipped off. After two or three 'retries' now motor hums when I put belt back on and turn washer on. No longer works. Pulleys still move by hand - not frozen up. Did I burn out my motor?

Had to replace pump because a bobby pin was shot right through it and made a hole. Before there was a leak there would be the occasional whirring sound. I always assumed it was one of my wife's bobby pins going along for a ride in the pump, but this was not the case. After installing a new pump the whirring sound remains and is in fact intensified, but now I can see the spindle spinning but the drive pulley going no where. The spindle below the pulley going into the pump is pretty rusty. Any ideas? Did the spindle snap perhaps? Is the pulley not seated correctly? It's seized up pretty good so I can't really tell. Any thoughts?

After replacing the inner tub seal and the lower bearing I am still having issues. I think it may be the motor. It runs fine on the regular agitate cycle but does not run correctly on the spin cycle. The motor spins but not like it should. It will run for a second and then make a "chugging" sound as it turns off and turns back on. It draws quite a bit of power when it does this to because it dims the lights in the house. I thoughts perhaps I did not reinstall the brakes or something correctly. so I mounted the motor and removed the water pump and removed the belt to isolate the motor. Even with no load it still has the same symptoms. Could it possible be anything other than the motor? before I spend the money on a new motor I want to make sure.

We have an Amana ALW480DAW. After doing a load of laundry, the belt burned out and filled out laundry room with smoke. The water had drained, though the clothes were still pretty wet, seems like it didn't make it through the final spin. We ordered and replaced the belt, everything ran fine until it came to the final spin and again the belt burned out and never finished the cycle. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
