Appliance age is approx 20 years. Compactor does not fully compact the material in the drawer. The motor and ram function fine but the ram reverses before it has compacted.

Answer Joe, You will want to check the directional switch at the top to make sure that it is adjusted properly. If this checks ok then the motor switch W10439651 would be faulty and need to be replaced.

I have a Kenmore compactor 66513605790. I can only get the compactor to compact by holding the start switch until I hear it go to the bottom then let go of the switch and it will stay down, after it's compacted I have to hold the switch until it rises all the way up again. Also the normal/extra pact switch blinks when it is compacting. Thank You for your help.

I need to replace motor. The original motor (part # 776171) has been replaced by w10439651. Is this motor compatible with sdc800003 whirlpool trash compactor? I received the motor they sent me but my old motor doesnt have a brown wire to connect to the brown wire in the new motor. Thanks!

My compactor works fine when in normal mode. When in solid mode, it will only run if you hold down the selector knob to the start position. If you let up on the selector knob, the unit immediately stops. If you hold it down long enough, it just cycles all the way down and then back up. If you let go of the selector knob half way through the cycle, the compactor stops at the bottom, where it should stop. How do I test the switches to determine which one I should replace? Unit has solid and normal buttons/switch. When set to normal, the unit cycles fine. When set to solid, I have to hold the start switch in the start position to get the motor to operate; however, the ram makes that knocking noise and doesn't go down. As a workaround, I have been setting to normal and waiting for the ram to go down just far enough before it starts to come back up. At that point, if I hit the solid button, the motor shuts off with the ram in the down position. When I am ready to open it again, I hit the normal button and the ram finishes the cycle. Does this sound like the motor switch or something else? Thanks!

Unit won’t keep running.• Top limit switch contacts open part # 777811. • “Solid or Dense Pack” cycle switch contacts open whether in “on” or “off” state (only on equipped models) part # 9872148. • Centrifugal switch contacts open (orange/black switch) part # W10439651. Use a volt/ohm meter part # TJMA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. From what you described then I would focus on the Push button switch using the supplied wiring diagram stuck on the back of the unit. Thank You.

The ram will not do down on my Kenmore trash compactor. Turn the knob to start and the motor runs fine, and the ram sounds like it tries to go down but doesn't move. I have checked the drive chain and tightened all bolts. I replaced the directional switch thinking that was it, but it made no difference.
