How could I repair a Whirlpool over the counter microwave fan? I used the touch screen panel for different speeds and nothing works. I assume the motor is shot. Could this be due to my wife's smoking habits under the fan?
Thanks, Mike

Answer Hello Mike. You will need to uninstall the microwave from the cabinets, and remove the outer cover. Once removed, you can access and replace the fan motor W10117942. Test for power coming to the fan motor with the fan turned on. If there is power there, the motor is bad. If there is no power there, you may have a bad control board. Smoke does not tear up the fan motors. They just go bad sometimes. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
When unit is sitting idle with nothing running, it is producing a buzzing sound from the fan area. What would cause this and what is the repair?

Answer Hi Bruce. If The fan is constantly running then the cavity thermostat is open because of an overheated issue. This part # is 8183703. If the blades have something stuck in it, then you will need to remove the grill and investigate what is in it. Thank you.
