The ice cube dispenser motor became wet when there was a power outage and is now frozen, I can thaw it with a hair dryer but it freezes again. I cant get the motor clear of the wire to get it out. Can the grommet holding the wire in the door be pryed out? What's the procedure to removing the motor?

Answer Hello Henry. No, but with the wiring harness unplugged from the motor, you can remove the motor from the unit. You just will have to work with the motor and the harness to remove it.

The ice dispenser appears to freeze to the door. If I remove the ice maker daily, not much of a problem, but leave it a few days with use, and it is frozen solid to the door and needs a hair dryer to get it loose. I have put wax paper under the dispenser and it appears that it is freezing to the metal drive shaft from the dispenser motor. Any ideas?

Answer Hello Tommy. You need to check and see if the flap 8201756 is broken and is allowing in warm air causing the issue with the unit.

My ice maker is making ice but doesn't dispense it.you hit the switch and you don't hear anything. I removed the ice from the tray and the shaft doesn't move. What could be the problem the motor or the switch to the motor?

Answer Hello Rich, The shaft of the ice dispenser will not move unless the motor is activated. You will want to pull the front cover off the dispenser to check the switch to make sure that the pins holding the switch in place are not broken. To access this you will remove drip tray, and using a flat blade screwdriver, place under the bottom of the trim and pop out. Once off check the bracket where switches are to make sure that it is not damaged and make sure that when you hit the dispenser that the lever makes good contact with switch. If not replace bracket W10206221. If this checks ok then your dispenser motor W10271506 is most likely the problem.

My ice maker no longer dispenses ice through the door. I removed the ice bin and tested the auger to ensure I could manually turn it freely and I could. Next I checked to ensure the shaft under the ice bin would rotate with the bin removed. It did. However, when I replaced the bin the auger would not rotate. Do I need to replace the motor or could the shaft be failing to sufficiently engage the coupling (not sure this is the proper term) on the bottom of the ice bin?

Answer Hello Tammy, If you are not hearing the motor then it could be a bad motor. If you put the bin in and motor is turning but you hear a jumping noise then the shaft is not meeting up with the coupling.

I 've replaced the motor - part number W10271506 and the ice maker still doesn't work. It dispenses water and I've gone in and swapped the switches on the electric board to see if that would solve the problem. Both switches work (get water w/both) What can I check next? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer Hello Robb, You should check the dispenser bracket W10206221 where the switches are to make sure that the pins that hold the switches are not broken. Also make sure that the bracket is not warped. Also check the lever W10152855 to ensure that it is not broken.

We had an 8 day power failure (Sandy) and during this time, we left the ice in the bin inside the freezer. As the ice melted, the water slowly dripped through the dispenser. Once the power came back, the ice maker worked fine, but the ice dispenser does not. When you push the dispenser lever, nothing happens, no motor noise, nothing. I am wondering if the melting ice burned the motor out? Is there some way to test the motor or is there some other part that could be causing the problem. I saw one reference to a logic board......I have the motor removed, but do not want to order a part until I am reasonably sure of the cause of the problem. Thanks.

Answer Bill, Under the circumstances, we'd expect an issue wirtth the actuator switch 2162361 and or the dispenser control board 2321704. Since you have the auger motor out, you can check for a resistance reading across the motor terminals. Pins 1 and 2 = 10 to 15 O, Pins 4 and 5 = 220 to 270 O if you have a multi meter. If you have the resistance readings(+/- 10%) then the motor is fine, and you'll need to check the actuator switch and control board for water damage and shorted components.
