Sir: Reference: The video showing how to replace direct drive gear case https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K45uTNYd6Nw. Directly below this video the text indicates the washer gearcase is (part #3360629). Howver, the number on the gearcase in the video at 3:48 shows 389228 on the casing. Are these two gearcases identical or equivalent? The viewer breeisbee asked the same question? -John

The gear case (transmission) on my Kenmore Direct Drive Top Load Washer is labelled 389228. What replacement do you have that can be used? It does not spin or agitate. It drains the water so the motor and motor coupler is good. Do you have to remove the basket to change the transmission? Thanks. -John

Latest Questions

I have ordered the gear case assembly, part no 3360629 and installed in the washer, with the help of your video. We have washed a few loads already, but then I remember in your video that we have to use the needle to open the bleeder hole on the gear case but I didn't do it. Should I open the machine to redo the whole thing, or could I just let it go?

Washer motor sounds fine, but high screeching noise and the tub not turning at all during rinse and spin. Transmission? Clutch? Brakes? ideas? Machine is 15 yrs old.

I have a 1989 WHirlpool LA7780XSN1 model washing machine that occasionally (although it is becoming more repeatable)makes a grinding noise during the spin cycle. I can override the tab on the lid to watch it spin and what is happening is the agitator will appear to engage briefly resulting in a grinding noise. It quickly stops for a moment and may not happen again or it may happen over and over during the spin cycle. The agitator works fine during the wash cycle. My guess is it needs a transmission based on you tube videos commentary etc. that I have watched. What are your thoughts and which transmission is correct for my model? thanks
