Hi, I replaced W10199915 (drip pan) about 3 months ago and now the same problem came back (water leaking and ice buildup). The only thing I did when I installed this that was probably different from the instructions was that I had the polyethylene drain tube installed so the end of the tube (on the compressor side) was pointing down instead of up, so there is not a liquid seal in the "U" shape. Could this be the cause for my problem? Also can I reuse the drip pan or I should purchase a new one? Thanks!
Answer Kevin, Yes, the improper orientation of the drain tube could be the issue " Make sure the clear polyethylene drain tube is oriented correctly in the moistral pan, per drawing shown. The “u” shape should not be upside down and oriented to have a liquid seal in the “u.” " Without the water seal, hot air from the compressor can circulate, and enter the drain tube and create excess ice and frost in the evaporator area. We wouldn't expect you to need any parts but you do want to test the heater resistances to make sure they haven't been damaged, and make sure you completely de ice and defrost all the components, then install the drain tube properly.
Is part number W10199915 a drip pan heater? The description says it's a drip pan and doesn't mention a heater. Also, can this be installed by a very handy DIY'er?
Answer Hello Kevin! Yes, the drip pan W10199915 is a drain pan heater kit. It includes the heater. This kit comes with installation instructions for installation assistance. Thanks!
Is part number W10199915 intended as a "fix" for a problem? My freezer side seems to have an issue with icicles now so I looked and found another person with a similar issue and one suggestion was to purchase this part.
Answer Hello Kevin,
There was a serious issue caused by the defrost pan assembly. As long as the unit is properly leveled, the part W10199915 will probably correct the issue. Just make sure all of the screws are re-installed as they are hard to line back up. Without all of the screws, the icicles will persist and most likely become worse. Also make sure no water can stand in the clear tube. Water standing in the tube contribute to the issue in addition to causing other issues such as water in the floor.
