My dryer temp. was getting too warm regardless of setting; I smelled plastic burning/melting so I unplugged it, turned off breaker and removed back panel to check on lint buildup. Cleaned lint out put it back together and plugged it in and turned it on; it seemed to work fine. I checked on it later, only to find all the setting lights were flashing. Unplugged, turned breaker off until tomorrow. I still smelt burning ; took a closer look at the 220 receptacle; the coating on the red wire was melted.so I replaced the receptacle. Plugged in, turned on, seem to be working but on checking the clothes, they were cold and not dry. What is wrong now? Heating element or heating control board?
You will want to check to make sure that there is 240 vac at the power supply. If there is power there then go to the terminal block and check for 240 vac. If there is power there then access the heating element and disconnect the power to the unit. With the power disconnected remove the wire from the heater that does not go to the thermostat. You will then want to then plug the unit back in and turn the unit on for a timed dry. You will need to test the terminal that still has the wire connected for 120 vac. If there is no power then go to the other side of the thermostat and check for 120 vac. If still no voltage go to the other side of the thermal fuse. If there is voltage there but not coming to the thermostat then the thermal fuse is the issue and would need to be replaced. If there is no voltage at the thermal fuse then the control board would be the issue. If there is voltage at the heater terminal then test the other wire that is loose while it is loose to chassis ground for 120 vac. If there is no voltage then the issue would most likely be the motor.
The start button is bad do I need to order a new panel?
Answer If you have a damaged overlay you will need to replace the control panel. For white you will need W10099598, for black W10099631. If you are having difficulties with the actual function of the start button you will need to replace the user interface 8571955.
