This dyer is an older model and the cord has 4 prongs. Can I take that cord off and put a regular 3 prong plug on so it would fit most folks recepticals? What I mean is, would it work with the 3 prong plug? Why the 4 prongs anyway.

Answer Hello. Electric dryers are made to run on 240V, no matter the type of connection used. You will however, have to adapt the unit with the correct dryer pigtail. If you need a 3 prong you will order TJ5654, for a 4 prong pigtail order TJ1004. You will have to re attach the ground wire coming out of the middle prong to the cabinet. Thanks!
