I have this Maytag dryer. It is making a bearing noise coming from the back of the dryer by the electric motor. Sounds like something is tumbling around. The dryer works fine except for this noise. Can you tell me what it could be? Thank you.

Answer Hello Rodney, there is a pulley 6-3051850 on your motor but, the idler pulley 6-3037050 is more likely to fail than the motor pulley. Also, on the other end of the motor, you should check the blower wheel Y303836. While you're in there, take a look at the drum support rollers 12001541 and drum glides 306508. That is most of the likely noise makers in a dryer. Hope this helps!

You answered my question about my dryer making noise, it is the plastic gear on the front of the dryer of the motor. I hope that makes sense, but on the back side of the dryer there is also a wheel that the belt goes around. Only the bottom screw holds it on and the top is missing. Can you give me a diagram of that? Or does it only take one screw?

Answer Hi Ken. The bottom bolt uses a guide washer that goes into the hole with the screw is the only mount screw needed. You did not find anything loose in the base pan did you? The belt tensioner pully is pulled taught from the mount to the base with a spring. Hope this helps. Thank you.

I hear a loud noise from the dryer, I removed the tumbler and of course the belt, I spun the motor and it seems to make the same noise would that mean I must remove and replace the motor, and is there is a diagram of the motor and accesories. Thanks

Answer Kenneth, First check the blower wheel Y303836 quite often, after a few years of wear and tear, the wheel has a tendency to " round out " and the motor shaft spins inside the blower wheel hub and makes noise. If you grasp and twist the wheel back and forth, there should be very little to no play at all between the hub and motor shaft. Thanks and Good Luck.

My maytag dryer was purchased in 1998. When you push the start button the dryer start up making a strange noise. Then as it is running, the sound it is making comes from the back of the dryer where the motor is located. It sounds like there is a flat spot, roaring noice at intervals. The when you open the dryer door, it makes a different noise as it is shutting down, like a rubbing noise or dragging noise before it comes to a complete stop. We had the dryer apart and checked the blower wheel. There was no play in the wheel where it slides on to the motor shaft. The roller bearings spinned freely. The idler pulley and drum slides and belt looked O.K. Could the bearings in the motor be going bad. Do I need to replace the motor?

Answer Hello Rita. Try turning the blower wheel by hand and see if the drum turns with it, or if just the blower wheel turns. If it is just the blower wheel that turns, you will need to replace the blower wheel Y303836. Hope this helps.
