Bought a use stove and when turn the gas on it was leaking when found the leak it was at the brass fitting coming of the left side of the gas regulator need just the brass stem and nut dont need the regulator any place I can find one.

Answer Sonny, The brass nut is not sold as a separate component and you would need to get a regulator.

I need to change the magic chef model 6498VRV from natural gas to propane... How do I do this? (I don't have an owners manual, and cannot find one on the net). Thanks!

Answer JC, your model is convertible. You will need to bottom the orifices out and come back up one and a half turns. Adjust the burner flame until it is blue. Flip the cap on the regulator. Thanks!

Moved into a house with a LP oven (note: this is the ONLY thing hooked up to the propane tank). Having a problem with a "POOF" effect when oven burner shuts off. Cleaned orifice and air shutter and tried to adjust air shutter. No success. Noticed gas regulator has both LP and NAT printed on it. Is this regulator adjustable or non-adj. I'm still waiting for my manometer to arrive to check inches of WC. As for the gas valve for the oven, it is only marked NAT, is there a LP gas valve? I can't seem to find one. Do you happen to know the orifice size of the spuds for LP?

Answer Dave, The range gas components are adjustable and don't require a "conversion kit". You'll need to check the regulator cap to see that it has the "LP" initials facing upi, turn all the orifices down(clockwise) 2 to 2 1/2 turns or until the brass orifice contacts the LP pin inside the valve(s) and adjust the air shutter full open. On the oven burner and valve, you do want to insure that the orifice is centerred in the shutter assembly, and the burner is properly mounted and aligned. An occasional "POOF" from the oven burner is considerred "normal".

last week we left the oven on "warm" for most of Saturday as we usually do. This time the house filled with the smell of gas that became more and more noticeable to the point where we had to open all the windows of the kitchen. We, of course, turn the oven off but now when I try to turn it on there doesn't seem to be a gas flow at all. No smell and no gas. I check to see if the igniter works and it's glowing red hot. What could the problem be?

Answer Hello Tzvi. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. My oven recently started smelling strongly of propane when it lights. It then will not heat up. It began by taking longer and longer to arrive at the temperature setting and now it will not heat past 195 degrees. The broiler works fine, but not the baking part of the oven. Please help!

Hi, my stove used to take 10 minutes to heat up to 350, but just recently it takes 25 minutes. It still ignites at the 2 minute mark, it just warms up much slower. Some research leads me to think the pressure regulator is to blame. If so, how easy is it to replace? Thanks

Answer Mike, replacing the regulator 74006429 isn't that difficult to replace, it can be awkward. But that's not likely the issue, especially if your top burner flames operate correctly. Your most likely issue is a weak igniter 12400035. The sooner the igniter produces 3.2 to 3.6 amps to the safety valve, the sooner the burner will ignite. If you can get access to a "clamp on" ammeter, you can test the amp draw while the igniter is glowing to determine if you have a weak igniter. 95% of gas oven heat issues are due to a weak or inoperative igniter.
