How do I remove the balance ring. It looks like little pawl teeth in several places around the outside of the ring. Lifting and prying is not moving it.

Yes, My washer is out of balance, the machine is level and the springs looks good, {the machine is 5+years old}. What else could be wrong?

Machine has some age on it. Put in a rug, began spinning, created an out-of-balance clanging. By the time I got to it, the tub seems to have lowered by about 1/2-1 inch. I have not yet taken the machine apart......what should I be looking for once I get there....or will it be obvious? Just looking for a heads-up.
