How do you remove one of the old-style concrete balance rings?

Answer Hello David. If you insert a small pin into the holes in the outer tub, you can release the tabs. Try using a small piece of cardboard to place between the tub and the tab. Now the balance ring 22001142 can be lifted off the tub assembly. Hope this helps.
